4 Ways to Easily Control Your Calories
By Genevieve Cunningham
No one really enjoys the process of counting calories, but if you’re looking to lose weight, it’s probably necessary. Weight loss can be complicated, but at the base level, it’s simply burning more calories than you consume. And if you don’t know how many calories you’re consuming, this can be a hard task to accomplish. Luckily, it’s possible to watch your caloric intake without being too stingy about counting calories. It just takes a little self-discipline and some cool tricks! If you need to get your diet and health under control, take a look at these tips for controlling your calories without counting every bite.
Drink More Water
Drinking more water is a super simple trick for cutting calories. Water is a zero calorie filler. When we drink it, we feel full in our stomachs, which then makes us eat less. And since our bodies need water in order to stay hydrated and healthy, it’s a win-win situation all the way around.
Eat More Fiber
Fiber is another filler food. It expands in the stomach, which makes us feel fuller longer. Like water, this can keep us from eating too much. But unlike water, fiber-filled foods still contain calories, so you’ll need to plan accordingly. Good fiber-filled foods might include berries, beans, broccoli, almonds, and apples. Pick what you like and add it into your diet today.
Limit Your Eating Window
For some people, it’s easiest to put time limits on their eating schedule. Try eating between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. … or whatever hours work for you. This gives you less time to eat, which almost always means that you’ll eat less. Just make sure that you’re not cramming more food into the small window. Stop eating when your window of time is over, and don’t eat again until it opens up the next day.
Stay Moving
All too often, we actually eat out of boredom. If this sounds like you, the best thing that you can do is to stay busy. The busier you keep your hands, the less food you’re likely to eat. Instead of grabbing a snack, go walk a mile. Or read a book. Or play a game. Just find something to do with your hands and mind. Though this will take a lot of thought and effort at first, it will get easier and easier until it’s an automatic habit.
Counting calories can be tedious. But don’t let that stop you from losing weight and reaching your fitness goals. Use these tips to lower the number of calories you’re eating on a daily basis, and watch your health and body improve like never before.
