Why You Should Consider Water as a Wake Up Drink

By Genevieve Cunningham

When we first wake up in the morning, most of us reach for that steaming cup of coffee. Coffee is so synonymous with mornings that just the smell is enough to get our eyes open and brains moving. But is coffee the best choice for a morning drink? Or is there something that might work better? As it turns out, you may be better off drinking plain old H2O! If you're interested in starting your mornings off in the healthiest way, take a look at why you should consider making the switch to water tomorrow morning.

Water Hydrates

Hydration is so much more important than we like to admit or think about. Most of the time, we just don't give it any direct thought. But when the body is dehydrated or properly hydrated, we notice a difference. Hydration keeps digestion moving, blood circulation strong, and can even help clear your skin. And it also wakes you up! As the water is absorbed into the body, each body systems awakens and begins to function just a bit more efficiently. Make note of how water makes you feel, especially first thing in the morning, and you may notice that water and hydration really is the key to a good morning and better health.

Water Improves Focus

Along with awakening your body, water also awakens the mind. Proper hydration is a focus enhancer. It gives the mind what it needs, and focus becomes so much easier. If you need that extra burst of energy and an enhancement in focus first thing, water may do a more effective job than that cup of coffee. If you give this a try and don't notice the effects in one day, don't give up. Your body is used to coffee, and it may take a while for the caffeine withdrawals to fade and the benefits of water to take their place.

Water is Inexpensive

Water is pretty inexpensive. Sure, you still have to pay for it, but coffee is much more expensive, especially if you get your coffee jolt at a local shop. If you like to budget, skipping coffee can save big. You won't have to buy the beans, the cream, the sweetener. You won't have to factor in five bucks a day at your local coffee shop. Try water on most days, and coffee on a few special days, or just random days when you feel like it. This helps you save money, boost health, and really improve your body and mind with very little effort and even less money.

Coffee isn't the enemy. You could be consuming so much worse! But it may not be the best choice for a morning drink either. Try drinking water first thing in the morning and see how you feel. This simple switch may change your mornings and your health for the better in no time at all.
