3 Tips for Pumping Up Productivity

By Genevieve Cunningham

Most people want to be productive. The more productive we are, the more successful we feel. Makes sense, right? Unfortunately, there are times when productivity really hits a hard patch. When it seems like we can't get anything done at all. When we try our best and yet the outcome is less than we want or expect. So what are we supposed to do? If you need to pump up your productivity, take a look at these little tips that just might get you back on track for both productivity and success.

Wake Up Early

It's unfortunate for those of us who like to sleep in, but research indicates that morning people tend to be more productive. Why? No one really knows. Perhaps it's because they're wide awake by the time they reach the office, which means they can get right to work. Maybe it has something to do with natural biology and our urge to work with the sun. This doesn't mean you can't be productive as a night owl -- you absolutely can! But if the night owl life isn't working for you, consider making the switch to mornings and you may find your productivity drastically improve over time.

Learn to Minimize Distractions

Distractions will get to the best of us. They take away our focus and keep us from completing tasks. While everyone is going to get distracted at some point, it's important to minimize distractions as much as possible. Start by closing extra tabs on your browser. Turn your phone on silent and put it upside down. The fewer distractions you have while you're working, the more you can focus and the more work you can get done as a whole.

End Procrastination

Procrastination is an enemy to productivity. When we put things off, we have less time to do them and more stress surrounding the tasks. What many people fail to realize is that procrastination is a choice. You don't actually have to procrastinate! But it's so ingrained into our nature that it feels out of our control. If you're a procrastinator, you have to make the conscious decision to do your work as soon as it's assigned. Though incredibly difficult at first, it will get easier and far less stressful to nip procrastination in the bud and completely transform your productivity.

Everyone wants to be productive. It's productivity that makes us feel like we're accomplishing things. Like we're successful! But it's really easy to get off task and lower our own productivity for no reason at all. Pay attention to these little details in your day. If we can turn around bad habits and improve these areas of our lives, we can improve our work for more productivity than ever before.
