Have Fun and Get More Exercise
By Tom Herrin
One of the biggest problems that many people have with exercise is that they find it to be too much of a grind. As a result, they are unmotivated and unlikely to continue with a program. While this is the case with many individuals, it doesn't necessarily have to be. Unfortunately, they become discouraged by the grind of keeping a schedule that is too repetitive. As they lose interest, they find it difficult to keep motivated to maintain their effort. It is understandable because most of us like having some kind of variety to make life more interesting. It is possible to participate in higher interest activities and still become healthier in the process. There are likely more activities out there than many of us realize. While some of these may be very mild, others may be exciting and adventurous.
Try Going to a Playground
While the thought of spending time at a playground may sound like child's play, there may be quite a few things you could do there. One of them is to simply have some fun. While swings, gliders, and slides are always nice, many playgrounds also have overhead ladders and/or parallel bars. These can be great for upper body strength. Some also have climbing walls. For most of these, you may find yourself using muscles you forgot you had. This can be a great place to go for a moderate workout.
What Is Birding?
At one time, most of us had some idea of birdwatching, even if we didn't do it ourselves. We saw people with cameras and binoculars running around making notes. With the technology available today, we can use our phones to provide resource info, take pictures, and record what we see. Following birds around actually requires you to move around as you try to get into position to see various birds. It can be a fun way to be outdoors and participate in a unique hobby at the same time. It is a mild form of exercise, but it may be a good place to start for someone who has been pretty sedentary.
Go Kayaking for More Ambitious Activity
There are times in which any of us grows tired of the ordinary and yearns for something more. If you enjoy the water, you may like kayaking. It requires some skill to be able to roll it, move it, and make it go where you want it to. As you do this, you will definitely be working a lot of different muscles. You will also see some really different scenery. For those who want more adventure, try a kayak. You can usually rent one to start with, so you can see if it is the thing for you.
