How You Can Have a Better Morning -- Every Day!

By Sara Butler

Waking up on the wrong side of the bed is no fun for anyone. It seems as if the way you wake up in the morning really does set the tone for your entire day, which is why it's important to do it right. If you're not naturally a morning person, no worries. There are a few things you can do to have a better morning each morning that doesn't take a lot of effort on your part.

Try to Wake to Natural Light

Sometimes (hello, winter) it's impossible to wake up to natural light, but during the times of the year you can swing it, waking up to natural light is a great way to start the day.

If your home allows you to leave your bedroom drapes open in a way that won't disturb you when you're going to sleep at night, then leave them halfway open to let in a little morning sunlight. If that's not a possibility, there are special lights you can buy to simulate natural light that allows you to wake up feeling refreshed -- and with a punch of Vitamin D.

Make More Time

Are you one of those people who hit snooze so many times in the morning that you have to practically jump out of bed, throw on your clothes, and run out the door? That's not a great way to start the day. If you can set your alarm clock a bit earlier and resist the urge to snooze until the last minute, then you can give yourself a bit more time in the morning to get going.

This extra time can be used to have a cup of coffee, do a few stretches, or even read the local news. This can be difficult to do at first, but after a while, your body will become used to it and you may learn to relish these mornings.

Stretch It Out

Speaking of allowing yourself more time in the morning, a great way to start your day is with a few simple stretches. If you can get into the habit of a daily stretching routine, then you can increase your flexibility and mobility while improving your strength and posture at the same time. You don't have to get fancy, simply find a simple sunrise yoga for beginners video online and give it a whirl (or a stretch).

You may not be a morning person, but try a few of these suggestions and you may be surprised by how much easier mornings become.
