Dr. Stan Setzer received his Bachelors in Business from the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2010. He then chose Sherman College to complete his Doctoral Studies and officially became a Chiropractor in 2016. It is his mission to bring Chiropractic to as many people as possible and demonstrate the power of the human body to heal itself when the nervous system is clear of interference.
Originally from Newton, NC he moved to Asheville to attend undergraduate college and quickly fell in love with the mountains and the city. Not too long after he fell in love again, this time with his now wife Melissa. Together they have four children Michael, Mathew, Melody and Grayson. Dr. Stan found such a wonderful home in Asheville that after graduating from Sherman College he chose to start practice there and joined the team of doctors at The Joint Chiropractic in October of 2016.
Dr. Stan has a great love for cinema and when asked which four notable people would make up a dinner party Dr. Stan replied with Joss Whedon, Stephen King, George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino.
In addition to his traditional education Dr. Stan has been training in Heishin Ryu Karate for over 15 years and has earned the rank of 3rd Dan (3rd degree black belt), as well as a 1st Dan (1st degree black belt) in Toyama Ryu Iaido, a style of Japanese Sword. He has found great satisfaction over the years teaching students of all ages how to face their fears and build confidence in their ability to protect themselves.
He believes that life should be a process of constant improvement and that everyday a person should work to better some aspect of themselves, no matter how small the improvement.
Through striving to better ourselves we should also work to better the communities in which we live and offer a helping hand where needed. He further continues to educate those who come to him for chiropractic care in ways to improve the function of their bodies and how to protect themselves from disease. It is this aspect of constant improvement that Dr. Stan finds to be the greatest benefit of chiropractic care as every adjustments helps to improve the health of every individual.
I grew up mainly in Chicago, except for 5 years between ages 4 and 9, I lived in Peru when my father worked for our church mission. I got my Bachelor's with a minor in Chemistry at Northern Arizona University. I joined The Joint in August 2016. What I love about Chiropractic is the incredible help you can give a patient. With no I'll side effects. I especially love adjusting children (no preconceived notions).
In my spare time I love being with my family. My wife's name is Carrie. We have 4 wonderful kids and 3 great dogs (a great Pyrenees, a toy poodle and a lab mix).
Dr. Mike Massengale was born in northern Georgia and raised in Tennessee. He was raised in a military family and moved around a lot growing up. Dr. Mike attended Dixie College in St. George Utah where he studied pre-med. Dr. Mike graduated from The University of Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon in 2002.
Dr. Mike has practiced Chiropractic in multiple places around the state of Utah and was the Chiropractor for the Utah Grizzlies professional hockey team.
Dr. Mike joined The Joint Chiropractic team in July of 2020. He absolutely loves what he does for people and is always excited about the response from patients how much Chiropractic care has been able to help them in many facets of their health and wellness.
Dr. Mike is married and has 3 children and a Rat Terrier named Indy. Dr. Mike and his wife enjoy outdoor activities and even went skydiving with his wife for their anniversary.
Dr. Shane Kamer D.C., or Dr. Shane joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2020. A 1999 graduate of Shawnee State University with a degree in Natural Science, he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2005 from Logan University in Missouri. Before arriving at The Joint Chiropractic Dr. Shane worked in his private practice in Black Mountain NC and taught full time at Montreat College in Exercise Science. Dr. Shane is also a Veteran of the US Air Force as an Air Medic for 13 years. Dr. Shane grew up in Eastern KY and has lived in North Carolina for the past 9 years with his wife Kristy and their teenage daughter Haleigh. They have 2 dogs, Belgian Malinois, Ginger and Chachi, a guinea pig and a chameleon.
"I enjoy time with my family and friends. One of the greatest joys is to watch my daughter play the sports she loves.”
Dr. Shane is also known for his cosplay costumes he builds for him and his daughter. They are a hit every year at Halloween in Black Mountain.
My picks for a 4 person dinner party living or dead would be Jesus, Albert Einstein, Anne Frank, and Elon Musk.
Dr. Teena Rowe joined us immediately after receiving her Doctorate of Chiropractic Degree in September, 2020 from Sherman Chiropractic College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Prior to this, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Pikesville, KY in 2016.
Originally from Eastern Kentucky Dr. Teena, like so many others, soon fell in love with the mountains of Western North Carolina while visiting in college and moved to join our team to pursue her love for healing through Chiropractic care. One of her many favorite things about being a Chiropractor is the ability to restore a patient's quality of life without the use of drugs and invasive surgeries, all while putting a smile on their faces.
Dr. Teena has a Chihuahua named Theodore and enjoys playing guitar, singing, painting, and traveling in her free time.
The coolest thing she has done is skydiving, and she's quoted saying, “Feeling the adrenaline rush is like no other and it made me feel alive!”
Four notable people that Dr. Teena would choose to have dinner with would be: Freddy Mercury, Hugh Jackman, Shania Twain, and Will Smith.
Dr. Peter Long is a Chiropractor originally from Scituate, Rhode Island. Out of high school he had aspirations to become a police officer, but a handful of fateful training injuries led him to the path of chiropractic school. He attained a BS in Anatomy, a BS Health Science, and a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree all from Parker University in Dallas. As fate would have it with aging family members, Dr. Pete made the hard decision to leave his beloved friends and "family" in Dallas and returned to New England, after a brief pit stop in Maryland. While in Maryland, Dr. Pete gained experience at an integrated clinic with an emphasis on conservative and holistic care. Working at that clinic ignited his passion for rehab, functional movement rehabilitation, and gait mechanics. From Maryland, he made himself at home in Taunton, Massachusetts closer to family. That was, until he and his girlfriend made a pivotal trip to Asheville and fell in love with the scenery and proximity to abundant hiking. Upon returning to RI they promptly started planning a move to the area. In September they pulled the trigger and moved their lives and two dogs to Asheville before he joined The Joint in October 2020.
Dr. Peter says:
The best thing about being a chiropractor is to help people to live their best lives! He would not miss an opportunity to fill a dinner table with Teddy Roosevelt, Ted Turner, Sir Richard Branson, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Outside of the clinic you can find Dr. Pete helping friends with DIY projects, hiking, building all sorts of wood projects, traveling, catching up with friends, or exploring a new area. As an enthusiastic environmentalist you may see him picking up litter around the parking lot or catch him bringing office recyclables home to be recycled.
April Berg, DC was born in Plantation, Florida. She was raised and grew up in Johnson City in Northeastern Tennessee. She obtained a second bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences in 2012 and her Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2013. Dr. Berg felt the call of the mountains and she returned to Johnson City, TN. She took over the same practice that she herself had started off as a patient in, and she has been running Family Chiropractic Clinic since 2014. Dr. Berg's favorite thing about chiropractic is showing patients how she can have an effect on the nervous system without the use of drugs or medication. Dr. Berg enjoys spending her free time outdoors hunting with her boyfriend and hiking with her Australian cattle dog, Maisy. Dr. Berg has fresh blueberries in her fridge at all times, not only for the antioxidant effects but also to help regulate her blood sugar!! An avid animal lover one of the coolest thing she has done is work at a rescue science center that rehabilitated wild birds where she got to pet and hold owls.

In June of 2019 the Wolcott's sold their practice, their home, most of their stuff, packed their 5-year-old daughter Juliet and two cats into an RV and hit the road to tour the United States (and a bit of Mexico and Canada).
