3 Exercises That Constantly Challenge Your Body

By Genevieve Cunningham

One of the most important parts of exercise is constantly challenging your body. While any movement is a good idea, the only way to really see results is to challenge yourself on a regular basis. Otherwise, your body will get complacent. It will get comfortable. It will stop responding to your workout. If you're interested in making sure that your workout is working for you, take a look at these three exercises that can continually challenge your body and improve your overall fitness.

Yoga is a practice that is extremely adaptable. If you're a beginner, you can follow a very gentle flow or use modifications to make it easier. If you're more advanced, you can follow a more difficult flow with more advanced postures. And because it's so easily adapted -- quite literally from day to day -- it constantly challenges your body and mind. If you want a workout that easily changes to your body's needs, yoga is a great place to begin.

Running is hard. It's hard on the muscles and the lungs and the mind. If you don't normally run, it doesn't take much to feel challenged. If you regularly run, simply lengthen your trail or pick up the pace. Making small changes to your routine can really increase the difficulty and intensity of your workout. And one of the best parts about running is that it's simple. Buy good shoes, find a trail or treadmill, and you can continually challenge your body without major changes to your normal workout routine.

Weight Lifting

Weights are always challenging. They create more resistance for your body, which then forces your muscles to work harder and grow. If you're a beginner, try some simple handheld weights. These will be enough of a challenge to get you moving. As you become more experienced, increase the weight. Lifting is something that you can do your entire life, and it will constantly challenge your body to become stronger, more stable, and better overall.

It's important to challenge your body. It's important to vary your workout and its intensity. The more you change it up, the more you keep your body guessing, and the more results you'll see! Use these workouts to keep your fitness routine interesting and challenging for better health now and in the future.
