Dr. Gerard Arcizo became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 when he began serving residents in the Houston area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“I love the ability to help ordinary people feel extraordinary,” Dr. Arcizo says. “The best feeling is after a patient’s initial visit and the look of relief they express. Not only do they feel better, but it makes me feel good knowing I provided a service that benefits someone else’s life.
“One of most gratifying things about being a chiropractor is the relationship we get to develop with our patients. We get to learn about our patients and their lives and what their limitations are, what their goals are, what their future looks like, and what their past has been. This is not a common thing for other healthcare professions so we are lucky -- as chiropractors -- to be able to have such great relationships with our patients.”
He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Stephen F. Austin University, where he focused on anatomy, exercise physiology, and human performance, before getting his doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College.
Dr. Arcizo is a product of Houston who married his college sweetheart. They enjoy spending time together with family and friends, traveling, and nature walks. They have a husky named Blue who loves the outdoors, and in his spare time, the doctor likes watching sports.
“I always knew I wanted to work in a healthcare profession so that I could help people physically,” Dr. Arcizo says. “My father had a severe back injury when I was a child and was in and out of doctor visits constantly. Unfortunately, his issues were treated mostly with medications but not much physical help, so his issues became chronic and impacted his whole life. I knew, one day, I would find a profession where I could learn the tools to help him and people like him who did not find answers from other forms of healthcare.”
He is excited to be an ambassador for his profession. “I love that we are a new clinic in a new area where we can reach more people who may have not heard of chiropractic or have been wary of trying chiropractic,” he says. “We are a growing profession and I am proud to be on the frontline of that growth.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Arcizo loves a good beverage, and he always has a quality starting lineup stocked in his refrigerator. “I always have sparkling water because it’s so great,” he says, “sweet tea because I’m a Texas boy who loves his sweet tea, milk for cereal, and chocolate milk for those times when I want to indulge my sweet tooth.”
If he could dine with four people from history, he would include scientist Albert Einstein, golfer Tiger Woods, President Barack Obama, and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.
One of the greatest books he has ever read was How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie “because it taught me how to become more proactive and influential to the world, and to live a better, more meaningful life.”
Carnegie’s not the only one who gave Dr. Arcizo some valuable life information, the best he has ever received: “An old baseball coach of mine once told me, ‘Luck comes to those who are prepared.’ Ever since then, I knew it was up to me to be ready for any life challenges I faced and that I control my life destiny.”
