Dr. Jennifer Jones became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 and became the clinic director of Memorial Park in 2021 serving Houston residents, where she continues doing the work she finds so rewarding.
“Life is a sport, honestly, and we should not have to go through every day just ‘making it work,’” she says. “I see so many patients who have been on autopilot who don’t even realize how much chronic pain they’re in. It’s amazing how much chiropractic can enhance your life, from acute injuries to general wellness; chiropractic can help break the mold of just ‘making it work.’ We only have one body, so why not invest and take care of it.”
One of the most gratifying things about being in the field is seeing the reaction of patients. “I love the response from patients when they realize how much their life just improved after an adjustment, whether it’s their first adjustment ever or their thousandth,” she says. “Nothing gives me greater joy than helping patients optimize their health in a safe, effective, and sustainable way.”
A product of East Texas, Dr. Jones has two dogs, blue heelers named Newt and Pru, who she couldn’t imagine being without.
In her spare time, Dr. Jones teaches varied dance styles to kids ranging in age from 3 to 18, but is known for her technique and drill team prep classes. “I also choreograph and prepare many routines each year for dance competitions,” she says. “I have been dancing since I was 7 years old and have no plans of stopping.”
She attended Texas Chiropractic College and earned a doctorate in chiropractic; before that, she attended Kilgore Junior College, where she got an associate degree in fine arts, and Texas State in San Marcos, where she got a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science and a minor in psychology.
“Due to my many years of dance, I have had my fair share of injuries, so over the years I knew I wanted to do something to not only help people recover but to prevent injuries,” she says. “I went to Texas State hoping to be a physical therapist but, during my internship, I realized chiropractic was more of my calling.”
One particular occurrence will always stand out as validation of her decision. “An older woman who had never been to the chiropractor was in extreme pain,” Dr. Jones says. “I was concerned something deeper may be going on due to the amount of pain and other symptoms. However, after treatment she walked straight to the back of the room. When she turned around, she had tears in her eyes and walked quickly towards me. She hugged me so hard and said, ‘this is the first time in so many years that I am not in pain.’ I’m not a miracle worker by any means, but being able to make that big of a difference in people’s lives is indescribable.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Jones says the one thing she always keeps available is dark chocolate: “I always have some sort of sweets on deck, but there has to be some sort of dark chocolate treat in the freezer, refrigerator, or pantry -- or all three.”
If she could bring together any four people from history, Dr. Jones would jump at the chance to hang out with entertainers Dolly Parton, Cher,Kate McKinnon, and Salma Hayek. “It’s a weird mix,” she says, “but I think this would be the best girls night out ever.”
Although she loves the Bible for many reasons, Dr. Jones says she was affected by The Giver by Lois Lowry: “I love fiction and stories that take us into a different time of ‘what if.’ I believe books should make our minds wander, so any book that takes me down a rabbit hole, I’m for it.”
